How do CEREC dental crowns work?

Like traditional crowns, getting a same-day crown begins with tooth preparation. Under anesthesia, your dentist files down and reshapes your tooth to create space for a crown. Then we use an intraoral camera to scan your teeth. The digital images are fed into a computer-aided design (CAD) unit to design your crown. Since the 3D design is displayed on a chairside screen, you can give feedback on the design of your crown.

After Dr. Gutschow approves the design of your crown, we don’t send the models to an off-site dental lab to manufacture your crown. We feed the images into an in-house milling machine which carves out your crown from a ceramic block in as little as 15 minutes! Once we mill your crown, we inspect it to ensure it looks natural and fits perfectly. If all is well, we use dental cement to bond it permanently to your teeth.

With CEREC crowns, there is no need for temps since you get out of our dental office with the real thing. This means you can damage your tooth in the morning and have a restored, functional smile by evening.
